The value of IT education.

Egiss x Street Children

As part of our efforts to support their work, we donate printers, PCs and cell phones to their schools and administration in India.

"Since 2021, we have had a rewarding collaboration with Egiss, which donates IT equipment to our projects in Kolkata. We believe quality education is essential in the fight for a life off the streets and out of poverty. By offering IT education, we open doors to more opportunities for children and ensure them the best prerequisites for the future in this digital age.

IT education also creates space for creative expression in students who might otherwise have been overlooked in the traditional education system.

We are therefore deeply grateful for our collaboration with Egiss and appreciate the positive difference they are making for the children of Kolkata.

Anindita Ray, Head of Operations:

"Computer skills help children to develop good and funfilled study habits, communication skills, aptitude for problem-solving and use of technology - that will serve them better throughout their lives.

The computers are contributing to the children's intellectual development and bridging the gap between concrete and abstract thinking.

As children explore cause and effect, create patterns, do storytelling, make presentations, solve problems, and discover solutions, they learn to do on a screen what they have already mastered through hands-on learning."

Building confidence

"Some of our students were finding it difficult to cope with academics and were demotivated in their studies, but they have found solace in the computer training and are more motivated than ever.

Some of them have gotten so good that they are now teaching their peers, and they are feeling extremely proud and confident about it. Feelings that are extremely important and highly valued when working with vulnerable children lacking confidence in themselves, their abilities and self-worth."

Rupa, Head Teacher Sealdah School:

"The computer-training has also enhanced the teacher-student interaction, opening up new possibilities for teaching.

Now, teachers can teach and demonstrate the practical aspects of theories to the students with various tools and programs of computers, making their teaching more dynamic and active for the children.

I truly believe that the computers have contributed to improving student retention - giving a chance to the children we otherwise might have lost in the education system."
